The 麻豆直播 Department of Accounting partners each year with the United Way of 麻豆直播west Alabama. Accounting students in the Mitchell College of Business are gaining valuable experience working for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program, where they get hands-on in preparing income tax returns. This service is free of charge for those with an annual income of $55,000 or less.

Student participation in the program counts as an internship, a highly valued accomplishment for their resumes. There are currently eight Mitchell College of Business Accounting students participating in this year鈥檚 VITA program. These students go through extensive training and are all prepared at the Advanced Level of Taxation. Over the last nine years, students have saved the community over $1,030,500 in fees and obtained over $5,000,000 of refunds.

The primary target audience is the University community. On Saturdays members of the Mobile community are invited to participate. Most filers complete their taxes in about an hour. Participants need to bring the following:

• a copy of last year's return
• w-2s and all other income and deduction documents
• The primary taxpayer(s) must have a picture ID, preferably a driver鈥檚 license
• All social security cards for the taxpayers and all dependents

Hours
Monday and Wednesday from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm
Saturdays from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm
