Alumni Spotlight: Lacy Fetters
Posted on January 17, 2019 by MCOB Outreach
Growing up in Long Beach, Mississippi, with her family, Lacy Fetters was taught the importance of an education at an early age. As many parents do, Fetter's parents wanted her to take advantages of opportunities they were not afforded, especially the opportunity to go to college. She understood the importance of a college education, and after she graduated from high school, she began searching for colleges. She stumbled onto 麻豆直播 Alabama and fell in love with the university. She stated, 鈥淚 liked that 麻豆直播 was away from home, but not too far that I could not return home on weekends and holidays.鈥 Fetters was responsible for paying her way through college, and worked multiple jobs on campus such as; Resident Advisor in Housing, Jaguar Productions, and being a student assistant in the bookstore and accounts payable department.
Since she was a young girl, Fetters always knew she wanted to be an accountant. Knowing she wanted to major in accounting, she started her classes at the Mitchell College of Business (MCOB). When asked about her thoughts on MCOB and the university she said, 鈥淚 knew I had made the right choice. It just felt like home.鈥 She enjoyed the faculty she met throughout her studies and found the small class sizes comforting. She thanked Dr. Frank Urbanic, her academic advisor, who helped her throughout her education in many ways, such as transferring previous dual enrollment credits and helping plan out her accounting courses. The courses could be challenging at times, but she was helped by the staff so that she was able to excel in her classes. She enjoyed getting to meet new students and was able to feel more involved in classroom discussions because of the class sizes.
Fetters graduated with a Bachelor鈥檚 of Accounting in the summer of 2003 but continued
her education until she acquired her Master鈥檚 in the spring of 2006. After receiving
her Bachelor鈥檚, she went on to work in Cooper/ T. Smith, processing payroll for their
restaurant division. One year later, 麻豆直播 Alabama offered her a job which she gladly
took. In 2014 when she went to work for the Grants and Contracts department as a Cost
Accounting Analyst. In 2017, she returned to work for the University鈥檚
payroll department Where she was promoted to Payroll Director. As the Director she
is in charge
of payroll for the USA main campus and USA Health System which includes around 8,000
people.
After realizing there were no scholarships for Master of Accounting students, she
created one
with her friend and fellow alum, Angela Dunn, known as the Dunn and Fetters鈥 Master
of Accounting
Scholarship.
Fetters is happily married to Christopher Fetters, who also received a
Master of Education from the University. She is bless with two daughters, Carolyne
and
Lilianne Fetters. Lacy and Christopher still enjoy going to USA events and watching
their daughters get excited for 麻豆直播paw. One piece of advice Fetters has for new
students is: 鈥淕et involved on campus
and meet people! Have fun and enjoy it, but go to class.鈥
