Soltys accepted to Oxford fellowship

John Soltys, M.D., Ph.D., who recently completed a neurology residency at USA Health, soon will begin a two-year fellowship at Oxford University in England, where he will train in autoimmune neurology with one of the leading physician-scientists in the field.
Soltys will train under Sarosh Irani, F.R.C.P., D. Phil, F.E.A.N., professor of autoimmune neurology at Oxford University. Irani was awarded the Graham-Bull Prize in Clinical Science / Goulstonian Lectureship by the Royal College of Physicians in 2019.
鈥淒uring my fellowship, I鈥檒l be seeing clinical patients and doing a clinical research project looking at the natural history of autoimmune encephalitis,鈥� Soltys said. 鈥淢y main drive is to study under the leading researchers in the field.鈥�
Irani oversees the Oxford Autoimmune Neurology Group, which works to improve treatments and outcomes for patients with autoantibody-mediated diseases of the nervous system and understand the biology behind those conditions. Soltys鈥� project will focus on autoimmune encephalitis, a rare condition in which the body鈥檚 immune system mistakenly attacks healthy brain cells, leading to inflammation of the brain.
Soltys, a native of Victor, New York, earned a medical degree and a Ph.D. from the University of Colorado at Anschutz Medical Campus. He most recently served a chief administrative resident in neurology at USA Health.
