Joy and compassion at the heart of Solidarity Week

Members of the Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS) at the Whiddon College of Medicine
gathered in the lobby of the Mastin Professional Building with carts full of snacks,
flowers, Valentine鈥檚 candy and Mardi Gras beads 鈥� thoughtful gestures meant to brighten
the day for patients and staff across USA Health hospitals and clinics.
As part of , the students set out to deliver moments of joy and connection throughout the academic health system.
鈥淕old Humanism Honor Society鈥檚 Solidarity Week serves as a reminder that compassion, empathy and kindness are at the center of patient care,鈥� said Corinne Gautreaux, a fourth-year medical student and GHHS member. 鈥淲e hoped to highlight the importance of human connection and our commitment to stand with patients and one another through the small moments each day.鈥�
Solidarity Week, held annually around Valentine鈥檚 Day, celebrates the bond of trust and compassion between patients and clinicians that is essential to high-quality care. As students made their rounds, they handed out treats and cards, surprising patients and healthcare workers alike.
鈥淲e were delighted to see the joy that was shared during these visits,鈥� Gautreaux said.
